I'm sure somebody did a play-along with it.

Oops, sorry dude. Somebody shared the T.O.I playalong and a couple of others from an Italian drum magazine, but I haven't seen that one.

I have learned to play along with the main groove [the pseudo-latin-fusionesque beat] & both the opening solos over the intro keyb vamp [& later, the "re-intro"], AWA the middle section solo [THAT was a BI***], as DW did. Was QUITE the challenge, & took quite a while of relentless pursuit. It's been awhile, but it was a thrill when i finally got them down [because Weckl is such a great "phrasist," well beyond me]. I doubt i could play them all the way thru now, it's been a while. Note: of course, it sounds like ME copping WECKL's phrasings, as is to be expected... I also learned to play half the solo in the mid sectn of Hard-Wired. That's a ball-buster, killin' solo. He prob had a motif in mind, but it was also prob largely improv, as are his subsequent versions nightly on tour everytime he played it. Another awesome tune, rhythmically.
Don't EVEN get me started on "Afrique"... /8c[

The ultimate conditioning challenge in these is to play most of it w a steady 1/4 note pulse on the hats/LF [& occasionally 1/8ths in the more blistering/notier-phrases/licks], while your playing the licks & hits/kicks...this will DEF help one's facility as it relates to independence, & within the TIME. DW is one of the kings at this.

It def helped my "brain" & playing ability as relates to drumg / rhythm. The purpose is NOT to be a DW clone in mindset or playing-wise, but to "get into DW's head" a little, so to speak, to challenge myself with "sitting in the middle" of a part that i could not have come up w on my own, beyond myself. It cant help but improve oneself in some way or another. [Of course, just not to cop almost everything he ever did. That would take da**-near half a decade, anyway. [img]wink.gif[/img] ]

Also notice i didnt say i could play the tune[s] non-stop from start to finish either [& nailing ALL those beautifully, wretchedly wicked kicks / hits]... ;c) [img]eek.gif[/img] Hopefully I'll get back to working on it sometime in the near future...

The solo in Spur is more Weckl-brilliance. Havent tackled that one, yet. Are there enough years in life for taking on VC, DW, VD, GN, DC, etc etc, & still be oneself?! [img]eek.gif[/img] ;c)

....that's a good point. I bought the Drummer + 1 when I was 15 on tape, It's been chewed up or lost for years.

There were some serious brain farts in a couple of the Altered clips I posted a month or so ago but I can't let that stop me from sharing stuff. I'm not a perfectionist I guess. I defintiely have high standards though.

You know, the presentation on the old Weckl DCI tapes is so near perfect in a sense that there's no mistakes, and the production is great. It was then weird seeing Dave in the John Patitucci tape when the audio was more raw. Made his playing seem more human... more reachable I guess. The mystery is gone from a lot of that stuff now, but his current state of playing is even more unrecahable than it was back then. Not that I want to play like him but I do like his soloing style.

Ok, after reading all these post about Weckl's 80s 's music, I decide to go back in the Weckl's first record.
I just have and like his 3 first one.
After these I think that he lost something in his music, just my opinion.

Anyway, it was goo to hear "Here and There", Marienthal sax soprano solo is awesome !!! My favorite tune on Masterplan is "Auratune", great vibes, nice production and great drumming by Dave.

On Heads Up, I like the very Brecker Brotherish "7th Ave. South", I use this groove with the floor tom on the first time with one of band, it's nice !!!
"Head's Up", again great solo by Marienthale, Oliver Solo is nice too.
Weckl on bass solo, awesome !!!
"Peripheral Vision", Jeff Beal's touch, nice vibes, I like.
"Against The Wall" co wrote by Weckl and Gary Novak who play bass on this song, and he can play !!!
Tavaglione is great on this song, I like his rough sound,

On Hard-Wired, I like "Hard-Wired", very nervous, "Dis' Place This", Weckl's classic latin/jazz/funk's stuff, very effective and Anthony Jackson is the Man !!!
"Just An Illusion", nice groove on the solo section where James Genus on bass groove like a badass !!!
"Where Is Tom", again a great Jeff Beal's vibes who is for me a nice music's "beautician".

I did not know that it was Sheryl Crow on "Rainy Day" !!!
Nice song, Mike Brecker is great too on this song.
I did some demo on some of these songs when I was young, it was really fun to play "Island Magic", "Rainy Day"...

Yeah, the mid' 80's, was good, and I also listened Chick corea Elektric Band's "Inside Out" who is for me the best Dave's drumming performance, incredible !!!

Yea, for stuff like a playalong, as long as there is some vibe, I don't have a problem posting it. Started playing the drums in 1990 (after figuring out how to play beats by listening to And Justice for All by Metallica). The first time I tried to play Spur, it was like: fuggedaboutit!
